Joshua, Chapters 12 through 22

I will not comment on these chapters.  For the most part they concern the distribution of the land of Canaan to the nine and a half tribes of Israel.  I say "nine and a half" because there are two and a half tribes who already got their land to the east of the Jordan River prior to Israel's invasion of Canaan.  They are, Gad, Reuben, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.  This was worked out with Moses when Israel was still on the east side of the Jordan River.

Note in chapter 19 that Simeon actually shared land with Judah.

Note also that the tribe of Levi was never expected to get land.  They were the tribe of priests, and as stated in the Law of Moses, God Himself was their inheritance.  They would be scattered throughout Israel in 48 cites which we see in chapters 20 and 21.   Six of these 48 cites were called "cities of refuge".  These cities were especially designated to those who killed someone by mistake.  Someone in this situation could go to any one of these cities and find safety and refuge from those who would want to kill them in retaliation.  These cities were not for those who intentionally killed someone.
