Alfred Edersheim, in my opinion, is the most important Jewish Christian in the last 500 years to write theological books.  I have read many of his books and this one is a good book to read.  It is packed with important information that helps fill in lots of things that are not clearly explained in our Bible about first century Jewish life.  

If you want to learn about Jewish life of the first century that Jesus, and the first generation church lived in, this is the book to read.  As a matter of fact, I would highly suggest reading any and all of his books.  He lived during the 1800's but his writings are still appropriate for tody.
