Honouring The Son

".. that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent Him".     - John 5:23

In our day when many Non Christians and Christians alike speak a lot   about God, this scripture sheds tons of light on the subject of where Jesus fits into the universal scheme of things.

Everyone is talking about, and praying to God these days, but what God are they talking about? Many pray for God’s blessing. Many say that all religions of the world pray and serve the same God.

All over the United States and Canada you are beginning to see billboards with "little messages from God" written on them. One recent billboard I have noticed says, "we must get together and talk", signed God. The billboard was placed there by evangelical churches. The question is thus raised, does this billboard promote the evangelical message that these churches believe in?

Look at the above scripture from the gospel of John. It says that "he who doesn’t honour the Son doesn’t honour the Father". The Scriptures tell us that we must all honour the Son. God Himself has raised Jesus to an elevated position as both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36) It is clear from Scripture that at the centre of all things is Jesus Christ our Lord.

If Jesus is really at the centre of all things, and if He really is Lord and Christ, then who should we promote? Who should we honour and speak about? This is not merely semantics. This is the central truth of the New Testament; "God coming to earth in the form of a God-man who we know as the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us take a look at our speech. Let us take a look at who we promote as Christians. Let us re-examine our thinking on this subject. Do we think in terms of God only, or do we think in terms of Jesus Christ our Lord? The Father wants us to place Jesus first in all we do and say, in all we believe and promote. He wants us to give honour to His Only Son Jesus Christ the Lord. This is what distinguishes us from everyone else. This is what makes Christians different from any other religious group in the world. It is Jesus that has saved us. It is Jesus that sits on the thrown of the universe. It is Jesus that sustains all things by His powerful word. He is central. In light of this let us put Jesus in the centre of our conversation, and if we are going to make another billboard, let’s have Jesus sign it, not God. Having God sign our billboard doesn't really say a lot.  Having Jesus sign it says tons.  Let the people who see the billboard know for sure that there is only one way to God, and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ.
