Becoming Our Enemies

On May 6, 2012, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden was interviewed on NBC's Meet The Press.  Supposedly speaking on his own behalf and not on the behalf of the Obama administration, he gave approval to gay marriage.  He said, "I am comfortable with a man marrying a man".

On May 9, 2012, President Obama declared his support for gay marriage when he said that he has seen too many gay marriages work to not accept them.  President Obama's pragmatism, (if it works it's right) is not supported by Christian thinking he claims to believe in.

CNN's Pierce Morgan says that Obama's statement is "seismic and historic" in American history. That it is, but not for the reason Morgan thinks.

If there is any social issue that brings conflict between real Christians and society, it's this issue.  I've been told that I "harbor hatred" towards gays and for this reason "God will never listen to my prayers".  I've also been called "a jerk off male sexist pig".  Let me be clear.  I am not homophobic.  I won't tell or laugh at a gay joke.  I have no hostility towards any gay person.  That's not Biblical.  My thinking isn't based on excess male  testosterone.  It's based on what the Bible teaches.  I've been told that it's "sad that I hear from God through the Bible and not from my heart", but the Bible tells me that at its core, our hearts are "desperately wicked". (Jeremiah 17:9)

With this in mind, in Exodus 23:31 and 32 the Lord told Israelis not to serve other gods.  In fact, He told them to kill all their enemies who served these other gods because if they didn't, these enemies would do them in.  Israel failed on both counts.  She didn't kill her enemies and she gave herself to other gods.

This is the Biblical principle as applied to Israel throughout Old Testament history that continues to this very day.  When Israel didn't destroy her enemies, and when she allied herself with them, God gave her over to her enemies in an act of divine judgment.  Israel wasn't just overthrown by her enemies, she literally became her enemies that she didn't destroy.  You ask how could that be?  When Israel gave herself to her pagan enemies through intermarriage, business partnerships, and the adoption of paganism, God judged her by handing her over to Assyria.  Assyria devastated Israel in a massive invasion and amalgamated Israeli survivors into Assyrian society.  Israelis became Assyrians.  Israel became her enemy.

The Bible speaks of many enemies the Almighty hands us over to.  They appear in government, philosophy, law, education, religion, the arts, and more.  The apostle Paul speaks of one such enemy in Romans 1:21-28.  "…although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God … their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools … Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity … God gave them over to shameful lusts.  Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.  In the same way men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.  Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion".

In this passage we see God handing us over to homosexuality.  I just cringed as I wrote these words.  They sound so foreign, so not right, so not loving, but what can I say?  I've given myself to Biblical teaching.  If I say anything different, I'm a hypocrite.  Either way, I'm criticized for either being hypocritical or hostile.

Once God hands us over to an enemy, and in this case, it's homosexuality, whether as individuals or as a nation, that enemy will overtake us.  We become subject to it, and we eventually become that enemy.

It's clear to me that the Lord has handed many of our nations over to homosexuality.  This is why the gay lifestyle is so prevalent, penetrating all aspects of who we are.  Government, law, education, the arts, religion, and even the so-called church has fallen prey.  Christians should view this present particular trend as God's judgment on our societies.  Without apology,  the Bible portrays homosexuality as being an enemy of our souls.  We are now becoming our enemy.

The Lord is also handing us over to another enemy.  Historically speaking, Islam has always opposed the God of the Bible and those nations influenced by the Judeo/Christian consensus.  Like homosexuality, Islam has penetrated western governments, law, education, the arts, and now the so-called church.  Islam is knocking on the door of the White House and many other capital buildings in the western world.  The Biblical principle is clearly being seen.  In judgment, we become our enemy.

The Biblical principle that says that if we don't repent we become our enemy, is poorly understood by our Biblically illiterate Christian world today.  For western nations, and for the western church, we are becoming the enemy we didn't destroy.  We are becoming Sodom and Gomorrah , and as Larry Norman once sang, we're now "Stranded In Babylon", the symbolic capital city of all that is opposed to the rule of the Almighty.

Just to be clear, the New Testament teaches that our battle is with evil spirits, not with those who call themselves gay or Muslim.  For this reason, we don't kill, hate, bully, or make jokes about those who claim to be gay or Muslim.  Instead, without fear, and in every market place of ideas, we promote Biblical truth.  We use every spiritual weapons available to rescue those whom satan has made the battle ground. (Ephesians 6:10-18)  If this causes offense and conflict, so be it.  That's the nature of the battle.  With hearts of compassions, we want what's eternally best for all mankind.

Feel free to pass this along to anyone and everyone.  Take a stand in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
