About Jesus Steve Sweetman
"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word." - Hebrews 1:3 We are not totally sure just who wrote the book to the Hebrews. Whoever it was had a keen sense of the grandeur of God, and the elevated position of Christ in the universe. Jesus is the "radiance of God's glory, the exact representation of His being". All of the characteristics of God can be found in Jesus. You could write a whole book on these words, but it is the next phrase I would to talk about. This verse says, "Jesus susatins all things by His powerful word". What do you think this verse means? A few years back after going through a divorce I found myself single again. After some time of singleness I met up with a beautiful lady. I thought, was the appearance of this woman in my life a trick from the devil to sidetrack me from the path of the Lord? How should I view this? How should I handle the feelings of my heart? In the midst of these thoughts I saw this scripture. I saw the words, "He sustains all things by His powerful word", I knew that I was part of "all things". The Lord holds, carries, sustains, keeps together, watches over all things, and especially people who trust Him with their lives as I did. The Lord keeps this universe from spinning out of control. He directs the paths of the stars. If He could do this, I knew He was looking after me. A Deist is someone who believes God created the universe, set it in motion, and then let His creation carry on in its own steam, as He watches from the sidelines. This verse does not imply such a thought, but says that God is "actively involved" in sustaining the whole universe. If this was truly the meaning of this verse then the arrival of this lady in my life was definitely the involvement of the Lord . I had trusted my life to Him, and He would not lead me astray, or let the devil sidetrack me.
