About Jesus Steve Sweetman
"In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will." - Ephesians 1:11 This is one of those scriptures that show God's sovereignty, His eternal nature and His greatness. Don't let the word "predestined" throw you off base so that you miss what is being said here. The idea of predestination is a topic for another day. The topic for today is that God is in total control. This is just another one of many scriptures that show this truth quite clearly. Paul says plainly, "He works out everything (that is everything) in conformity with the purpose of His will".What does this mean? This verse tells us that God has a plan, a purpose. It tells us that He has a will to bring about this plan. I am sure if the eternal God of the universe wills to do something then it will be done. There should be no doubt about that. God has a plan. He has decided to carry it through until the end. Paul make the point that "all things" are being worked out to conform to God's plan. All things means all things, not some things, or even many things, whether it has the appearance of good or evil. If God really has His hands in all things, then he is in total control. This means that even in the hard times our God can work His purpose, or at the least incorporated the hard times into His plans. This is so on an individual case, or even in a national sense. If this is truly the case then what should our attitude towards life be? Where does this put worry, anxiety in our life? Does this put everything that we go through into a different perspective? Does this bring peace and security to our daily living? If once knowing this to be a fact can our hearts trust it to be the truth? Can we put our faith, our lives in such a God who orders everything according to His plan? We might as well. He does have total control. He does have the last word in the universal scheme of things.
