I would highly recommend this book.  It's my opinion that church history is an important issue for Christians to know and understand.  Sadly, among many of today's Christians it is a subject that is often ignored, and it's to their detriment. Shelley's account, as its title states, is a good outline of church history in very readable language.  If you read this book, you will come away with the beginning of a good understanding about where church has come from.
