I have recently heard John 3:17 (for God so loved the world…) quoted
by a gay couple. They used this verse to point out that Jesus loves the
whole world, which includes gays. Thus their interpretation of this verse
gives credence to their lifestyle.
There is a great problem here with this interpretation. The problem is
that John 3:16 is only half of the gospel. Yes, Jesus died for everyone in
the world. Yet the other half of the gospel is that if you want what Jesus
died for, you must give yourself to Him as the Lord of your life. This
simply means that you begin to follow Jesus and live as He wants, and It
is clear that Jesus does not give any credence to the gay lifestyle as
being Godly.
