It’s amazing what you can learn from the book of Revelation that has
little to do with end time prophecy. While writing my commentary on
Revelation I learned that throughout eternity we’ll be dressed better
than our Lord Jesus. Did you know that? Well, it’s true, and I’ll
prove it, because there’s a good chance you haven’t thought about this
before.
Concerning those of us who have been redeemed Rev. 19:8 says that we’ll
be dressed in "fine linen, bright and clean". Verse 14 says
something similar. It says we’ll be dressed in "fine linen, white
and clean". We’ll wear these stain free clothes throughout eternity
and they’ll never get dirty. Just imagine, the days of doing laundry
will be over for good. That’s something to be thankful for. Somebody
should write a Christian song entitled "Thank God - No More
Laundry". That might just get some people excited enough to enter
into praise and worship next Sunday.
In Rev. 19:13 we see what Jesus will be wearing, and you’ll notice
the stark contrast between His clothes and ours. Jesus "is dressed in
a robe dipped in blood". Can you believe that? Jesus is wearing dirty
stained clothes, and with no washing machine in the next life, His clothes
will remain stained throughout eternity.
So there you go. Our clothes will be bright, white and clean and Jesus’
clothes will be stained. We’ll be dressed better than our Lord. Now that’s
something to be thankful for. Just in case you’re not sure, the stains
on Jesus’ robe are from His blood that He shed on our behalf.
There were many great exchanges made on the cross. This is one of them.
We get to wear nice new clean clothes while Jesus ends up wearing blood
stained clothes that we should be wearing. For all of eternity, when we
see Jesus, we’ll be reminded of what He did for us on the cross. So
before you notice the nail prints in His hands, you’ll first notice His
stained robes. I imagine that will be one humbling experience, standing
before our Lord and Saviour and being dressed better than Him.
