I’m Just Wondering

Christian Nationalists want to return America to what they believe is its Christian roots.  Knowing that those roots had little uniformity, but varied widely in doctrines and practices, I'm just wondering what version of Christianity should return to dictate America.

In the thirteen American colonies, Christianity included Puritans, Baptists, Quakers, Lutherans, Anglicans, Methodists, Anabaptists, Catholics, and a few others.  Each tradition held its own distinct convictions about authority, governance, and who belonged to them.  Depending on your preferred allegiance, you would not allow outsiders to vote or hold a political office.  You would execute those you considered to be satanic.  You would own slaves.  You would view non-white people as non-human.  You would want a secular king to oversee the church.  In the midst of this diverse disunity, all agreed that women must not be permitted to vote.  Do you see why I'm wondering just what version of Christianity should return to rule America ?

In much of what is commonly called Christianity today, I see a divisiveness that has no resemblance to Jesus’ John 17 prayer for unity.  In many respects I see a Christianity that doesn't look Christian.  Might Jesus have removed His Spirit from such parts of the church, as we read in Revelation 2:5?  Is He actually situated outside of certain segments of the church, as we see in Revelation 3:20?  Should such versions of Christianity lead a nation?

From my perspective, today's desired version of Christianity to rule a nation possesses an arrogant, ultra-masculine, wealthy, with a win at all cost mentality that has little to no respect for the fruit of God's Spirit that we read about in Galatians 5:22 and 23.  What did Jesus say about that?  "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors" (Luke 22:25).  In other words, such rulers dictate their will to benefit themselves.  Jesus went on to say that "you [Christians] should not be like that" (Luke 22:26).  He also said that "all those who exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted" (Luke 14:11).  That seems quite relevant these days.

So, do you see why I'm just wondering what version of Christianity should be leading America, Canada, or any other nation?  I'm also wondering what ever happened to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus.  I hope you haven't forgotten that the gospel of Jesus "is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16).
