About Jesus - Steve (Stephen) Sweetman Brothers
In Arms Dire Straits' hit song
"Brothers In Arms" was released in 1985.
It's one of my favourite pop songs from the decade of the 1980's.
No, this article isn't about that song.
It's about a brother, that if you are a Christian, can be
considered a Brother in Arms. Read
Romans 8:16 and 17. "The Spirit himself
testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are
children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if
indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his
glory." Paul wrote that
Christians are children of God. We
are, thus, brothers and sisters of Jesus, and co-heirs with Him of an
inheritance that cannot be conceived in our wildest imaginations (1
Corinthians 2:9). We will
inherit an existence exactly like Jesus' existence presently is (Romans
8:29, 1 John 3:2). It's the
greatest exchange in human history. Jesus,
while on earth, existed in our likeness and image so we, in our inherited
life, can exist in His likeness and image.
Until this inconceivable
exchange is realized, we share in the sufferings of Jesus, as Romans 8:17
states. We fight our way
through the issues of life. As
the title of Hugo Montengro's 1968 pop song suggests, life can be good,
bad, or ugly. In the midst of
it all, we have help with our fight with life.
We have a Brother who has fought this fight.
He has experienced it all. He
now exists as the Lord of Armies, the Universal Military General
(Revelation 1:12 - 16) who will put an end to life as we know it.
In fact, He is our Brother in Arms.
That being so, with all that life pushes our way, let us live as
the brothers in arms that our General has conscripted us to be.
