Electoral Interference

Anyone living in the western world has heard all of the news about Russian electoral interference in our national elections.  In the democratic West, this is an issue that needs attention.  As Christians though, we should realize that Russian interference in our elections is not our biggest concern.  Daniel 2:21 and 22 says something about electoral interference.

"He [God] changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others.  He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.  He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him."

Daniel said that God knows all about what lies in the darkness.  That would include the darkened hallways of our legislative buildings.  I maintain that if the secrets behind the darkened doors of the powerful were exposed, we'd see the exchange of lots of sex and money in the pursuit of power.

Daniel also said that it is God, not us, that ultimately causes nations and their leaders to both rise and fall.  Now read Daniel 4:17.

"The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people."

According to Daniel, the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms and nations.  If He wishes to bring a nation or its leaders down in judgment to accomplish His will, He will do just that.  If He desires to bless a nation and its leaders to accomplish His will, He will do that too.  I suggest, then, that God's interference in our elections is a more important issue than Russian interference.

In New Testament times God has delegated His sovereignty over the nations to Jesus.  Read Ephesians 1:20 through 22.

"... he [God] exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him [Jesus] at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in this present age but also in the one to come.  And God placed all things under his [Jesus] feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church ..."

Jesus has been given ultimate universal authority (Matthew 28:18) until such time He hands it back to God, as stated in 1 Corinthians 15:27 and 28.

"For he [God] “has put everything under his [Jesus] feet. Now when it says that 'everything' has been put under him [Jesus], it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.  When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all."

Revelation 11:15 tells us of the final state of the nations.

"The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: 'The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.'"

Some day the kingdoms of men will become the Kingdom of our God.  Until then, Jesus will accomplish His will among the nations.  This might actually include Russian electoral interference in our once Biblically influenced West.  Be forewarned, sooner or later the West will pay for its national sins, and when it does, the church will experience a massive, much needed, purification.
