About Jesus Steve Sweetman The
Real Inconvenient Truth Genesis
3:16 says, "cursed is the ground because of you".
The pronoun "you" refers to Adam.
When he fell from God's grace, he brought all creation down with
him. His rebellion brought
God's judgment, not only to humanity, but to all creation, the ground
included. Why did creation fall
with Adam's sin? Probably because God gave him the responsiblity
to look after creation. That's why Romans
8:18 states that all "creation waits in eager expectation for the
sons of God to be revealed". Who
are the sons of God? They
are those of us who have given our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.
When will we be revealed to all creation as sons of God?
When God recreates all things in the heavens and on the earth as
stated in Revelation 21 and 22. Why
is creation waiting with eager expectation? Because
when we, the sons of God, are recreated, creation will be as well.
Thus, I believe I can safely say that there is a direct
correlation between the human condition and creation.
When Adam sinned, creation was cursed.
When redeemed man is revealed in his recreated state, creation
will be as well. We
can see this at work in the way God deals with the sinful northern
kingdom of Israel, who by the way, the western world is a carbon copy of.
In Hosea 4 verses 1 through 3, God lists a few of Israel's sins. I say "a few
sins" because He lists more sins elsewhere.
God says that there is no faithfulness or love in Israel. Faithfulness and love had
been replaced with cursing, lying, murder, steeling, adultery,
bloodshed, breaking of covenants, and most of all, no acknowledgment of
the existence of the God of Israel.
That sounds a lot like our western world today, don't you think?
In light of God's judgment on Israel because of her national
sins, especially her failure to acknowledge the existence of her God, I
think we should think twice about our own national sins, especially our
failure to acknowledge the existence of the God of the Bible. Because
of Israel's sin, God says in Hosea 4:3 that "the land mourns".
An alternative rendering for the word "mourns" is
"dried up". Israeli's
sins had a direct impact on
the condition of the land they lived on.
The land dried up and became unproductive.
God doesn't stop with dried up land.
He continues by saying, "the beasts of the fields, and the
birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, are dying".
Israeli's sins not only effected themselves, it also effected the
land, the animals, the birds, and the fish.
Concerning
these same sins of Israel, Amos 3:6 states that when "disaster comes to a city" it is a
result of God's judgment on that city.
Two types of disasters hit Israeli cities to whom Hosea and Amos
prophesied. One type of
disaster was military attacks from Israel's enemies. You might want
to think about that one for a while.
The ot So
I ask, "what is the real Inconvenient Truth" that is presently
effecting our environment? It's
certainly not global warming. I
believe from a Biblical perspective, environmental disasters are a
direct result of the sin of those who live in the effected environment,
especially the sin of failing to acknowledge the existence of the God of
the Bible.
